New Year Resolutions

With 2016 coming to a close, it’s time to prepare for 2017 and reflect on how amazing 2016 was.

2016 was such a fun year and I couldn’t have wished for anything more!

Brandon and I got ENGAGED!
Countless trips
Lots of parties hosted at our house
Our house turned into a home
Fell back in love with cooking
New friendships
Strengthened existing friendships

As scary as the term “resolutions” can be, I have a few goals for 2017 . . .

Get Married! (that’s easy)
Cook more
Follow a devotional for the year. I have one but I haven’t followed it faithfully everyday
KonMari (aka declutter) my house. You can find some how-to videos here
Finish a couple of projects in my house (paint the kitchen dining room area, paint the laundry room, and build some shelves in the hall closet)
Workout consistently (Hello, Wedding Dress!)
Run at least 4 5k

What are some of your resolutions for 2017 and what are your best tips for sticking to them?

Thank you for stopping by!

Hey Y’all! Happy Wednesday!

After a lot of thinking, talking, creating lists of what I want out of this blog I’ve decided to shift gears and move away from lifestyle/beauty/fashion blogging and start sharing something I’m more passionate about.

I'm about to step back into safety because I'm not growing. Let's be honest:

Honest moment here, I love beauty/fashion and all it encompasses but it’s not what I’m spending my downtime doing. I’m not searching YouTube for the newest and greatest ways to contour, I just do what works for my face. Once I find something I stick with it and the last few weeks I’ve had a hard time finding valuable content to share with you. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll probably still share beauty related things on my Instagram (@hmbtx) but it’s not enough to blog about every week.

My lists taught me that I spend A LOT of downtime searching for recipes to cook for myself, Brandon, friends, family and coworkers. I get such a joy when I bring treats into work and my coworkers tell me I’m evil for bringing in brownies. During my lunch breaks, I’m on Pinterest looking for recipes to make my own pasta, bread, or a healthy chicken dish (#balance). I’m not looking for the how to guide on a smokey eye.  . .is that still even a thing?? Yes, I asked for beauty items for Christmas because I am who I am but my passion is food.

The last two weeks I’ve made a new recipe almost every night and not once have I regretted the length of time I’ve spent in the kitchen or the constant mess that I have to clean up. I’m fulfilled when my meal tastes so delicious that Brandon says he wants seconds 5 bites in.

Be prepared for a much better New York Roots to Southern Boots and more content on a regular basis!

Thank you for much for following New York Roots to Southern Boots during the journey! Y’all have kept me going and I only want to give you more.

Print out quotes on velum paper and wrap around a candle holder from the Dollar Store for graduation party. Graduation Quotes.:

Friday Five

We have been eating really well this week at Parsamo Estates, all thanks to Last week I printed off a ton of recipes to get inspired to cook again. I cooked a different meal everyday this week. . . except for tonight since we have leftover crockpot chicken enchilada soup.

(Left to Right – chicken cordon bleu, balsamic marinated flank steak, garlic lime pork chops, breakfast taco)

Sushi date with some of my Houston girlfriends.

I started the season with a 6 week win streak and now I’m on a 5 week losing streak. This could either be my last week in Fantasy Football or I’ll go to the playoffs. I’m not sure how I feel about either option. If I lose, I get my Sunday’s back, if I win I could beat some of my co-workers. Fingers crossed!

Christmas Tree ● Glittered Wood Letter Garland:

This weekend we are getting our Christmas Tree and I couldn’t be more excited. I pulled this image from Pinterest for some inspiration. I love the idea of stringing “Merry Christmas” through the tree and keeping the decor very monochromatic.

Our advent calendars this year, can you guess which one is Brandon’s and which one is mine?

I hope y’all have a fabulous weekend! We were supposed to go to Dickens on the Strand in Galveston tomorrow but due to some incoming rain, we will have to wait until next year.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Southern Eats – Snooze

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope y’all enjoyed time with your family and hopefully your pants aren’t much tighter today.

This post is LONG overdue but I still wanted to share it with y’all!

A couple of weeks ago Brandon and I checked out a new to Houston restaurant, Snooze. Snooze originated in Denver, Colorado and has slowly made it’s way south in California, Arizona, Austin and now Houston. Snooze sticks to what it knows best and that is breakfast. They are only open until 2pm so get there early. . .extra early on the weekends because the wait can be really long. The first time we went we sat at the bar instead of waiting 45 minutes for a table. If you have to wait and need some caffeine to make the wait bearable, have no fear they have a little coffee bar set up so you can fuel up.

The first time I went I ordered the Benny’s Duo which is awesome because you can pick two different eggs Benedict without an extra cost or without fear of picking which one you love more. I picked the Bella! Bella! Benny and the Chilaquiles Benedict. Both were AMAZING! I was able to mix my love for Italian flavors and Mexican flavors.

{Bella! Bella! Benny (left) – Chilaquiles Benedict (right)}

The second time we went I ordered the Breakfast Pot Pie which is by far my new FAVORITE breakfast plate. Let me describe this to you, they serve a perfectly cooked sunny side up egg on top of puff pastry smothered in their rosemary sausage gravy. Be still my heart!

If you have a Snooze near you, I would run there and order the breakfast pot pie. You won’t be disappointed.

What is your favorite breakfast item?

Thanks so much for stopping by!
