What’s Up Wednesday!?

Today I’m linking up with Pinterest Told Me ToMix and Match Mama, and The Larson Lingo for the first What’s Up Wednesday link up.The last Wednesday of each month we can tell everybody what’s up! Here are the topics:

What I’m Eating This Week
I prefer to make meals that can be cooked in my crockpot or one dish to keep it simple. This week I’ll be making Slow Cooker Chicken Tomotillo, Carne Asada, and Pan Seared Porkchops, all from PaleOMG.

What I’m Reminiscing About
That I have been a Houston resident for almost a year. It has gone by so fast, but time does fly when you are having fun.

What I’m Loving
TreSemme Max the Volume and Perfectly Undone Sea Salt Spray have helped me create perfect beachy waves that actually stay in place all day.
1. Distribute 1 pump of Max the Volume into your hair before you blow dry
2. Blow dry your hair
3. Section hair off
4. Spray the Sea Salt Spray onto the sectioned off hair, then wait a minute for it to dry
5. Curl your hair, I use a 1″ curling wand but you can use whatever you are comfortable with
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until you have beachy waves
7. Tousle out the curls and spray with hairspray

What We’ve Been Up To
We spent last weekend in Fort Worth to celebrate our friends’ wedding and decided to make a full weekend out of exploring the city. On Saturday night we stopped by a few saloons in the Fort Worth Stockyards. Our favorites were White Elephant Saloon and Thirsty Armadillo. We loved the live music, people watching and overall atmosphere that each spot had to offer.

What I’m Dreading
The lovely humidity that Houston offers all summer long. At least there is always a pool to cool off in.

What I’m Working On
My yoga practice and updating New York Roots to Southern Boots to include more pictures and features.

What I’m Excited About
My summer time trips to Colorado, the river for 4th of July, Florida, New Orleans and New York.

What I’m Watching/Reading

I LOVED Nobody’s Cuter Than You so much that I purchased The Antelope in the Living Room immediately after finishing Nobody’s Cuter Than You.You can read my small recap of Nobody’s Cuter Than You here.

What I’m Listening To
I’m missing my Dallas radio stations, so I’ve been listening to KSCS on I Heart Radio

What I’m Wearing
These wedges have been on repeat since I bought them. They seriously go with everything and are SUPER comfortable.

What I’m Doing This Weekend
Since we were out of town last weekend, this weekend will be pretty low key. We will probably go to the pool, go out to lunch, and enjoy a mint julep while watching the Kentucky Derby.

What I’m Looking Forward to
Brandon and I are going to spend Memorial Day Weekend in Denver to see my brother, sister in law and ADORABLE nephew.

He might not be very happy about this picture in 15 years, but I can’t help it, he looks so cute as a little furry bear.

What Else is New
On Friday this beauty will be delivered. I can’t wait to wear it all summer long and especially on my bestie trip.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Friday Five

1. Next weekend we are heading to Fort Worth for our friend’s wedding, so we are trying to find fun things to do throughout the weekend. One thing we know for sure, is that we will be at Chimy’s on Friday. Chimy’s is a staple for any Texas Tech student to enjoy margaritas and nachos. I was able to have my first Chimy’s experience this summer when I went to Lubbock, TX with my boyfriend’s family for Fourth of July. We enjoyed LOTS of margaritas, good food and Dr. Pepper shootouts.

2. Staying in on Friday night to catch up on Scandal and start Season 5 of Game of Thrones. My boyfriend and I attempted to watch it on Monday night, but I was so exhausted that I fell asleep before the opening credits. (Oops!)

Chic Anchor Voyager Cuff Bracelet | Stella & Dot3. Stella & Dot’s summer line launched this week, I’m LOVING this bracelet. I think it would be the perfect summer edition for my arm party. Check out the rest of the summer line here.

4. In June, my best friend, Stacey, and I are meeting in Siesta Key/Sarasota, FL for a bestie vacation. I told her when we started planning this, all I need is beach and bestie time, so why not head to beautiful Siesta Key. A tumbler with a Lilly printed monogram screams summer time. I can’t wait for our tumblers to come in. I promise I won’t use mine until we are on the beach. (pinky promise!)

5. On Sunday, April 19th, Lilly Pulitzer for Target line launches. As you can see, I’m obsessed with most of the items. Every piece causes me to daydream about being on the beach and enjoying summer time. Rachel and I will be at Target at 8am when the doors open so we don’t miss out on the Lilly goodies, but I might also shop a little early online just to be on the safe side.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! Thanks for stopping by!

Life Lately

I didn’t mean to take as long of a blogging break, but I needed some time to get back to my new reality. To keep this short, my grandfather passed away on April 6th. My grandfather, was one of the most amazing men in my life. He taught me so much in my 31 years; life lessons that I will never forget.

What helped me get through an extremely difficult time, was the unconditional love that my family shares, TONS of thoughtful messages from friends that are like family, and being able to hold my nephew for the first time. I have decided that baby snuggles are good for the soul.

Blog 4.15.15 001 Blog 4.15.15 003Isn’t he just the CUTEST!?!? I might be slightly biased, but that little man has my heart.

On Monday, I finally had my birthday sushi date with my friend, Rachel (her birthday is a week before mine, so we had a joint birthday dinner). We went to Blue Fish at the Bayou Center. For months, I have been craving an ahi tuna tower, but I have not had any luck finding one in Houston, except for Blue Fish. It doesn’t compare to the ahi tuna tower at Fin, which is in Plano, but it fulfilled the craving.

I fell back into my normal routine yesterday, work, hot yoga and then a trip to the grocery store. After taking a week off of yoga I was scared that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the class or the heat would get to me, but I was totally wrong. I had the best practice I’ve had in weeks; it might have been my new Lululemon top that my bestie got me for my birthday. (Thanks again, Stace!).

I have some great things planned for my Friday Five, so be on the lookout! I hope everyone had a great week!

Friday Five

1. New Kendra Scott Earrings from Nordstrom

Kendra Scott: ‘Sky Spear’

For some reason I have been on a MAJOR jewelry kick; I bought these beauties 2 weeks ago, I couldn’t help it they were on sale! P.S. They are still on sale for under $35!

2. Catching up on Pretty Little Liars this weekend. #whoisA

I watched Tuesday night’s episode, but I have not watched the 2 before that, so I have some catching up to do. Since it’s supposed to rain ALL weekend, I should finish Season 6 of Parenthood as well. Why not!?!

3. Yoga Weekend

Yes, I am well aware that I talk about yoga a lot, but I can’t help it.

4. Dreaming about Chuy’s Tex-Mex for Saturday Date Night

How can you not love how colorful this place is? I haven’t had it since I moved from Dallas over a year ago and after talking to my bestie, she made me crave it since Monday. (Thanks, Stace!)

5. Happy First Day of Spring!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and a happy first day of Spring!

Namaste Ya’ll

Yesterday was the type of day that yoga was NEEDED! The last few weeks have been super busy with work, rodeo, friends coming in town, my boyfriend and I going out of town, and having a life outside of work.

Yoga is the one physical activity that grounds me, provides me balance, teaches me how to be compassionate to my body, and helps clear my head of all distractions. Before I started practicing yoga, I didn’t know how to clear my head; I was constantly running a to-do list. It feels really good to unplug from the world for 1 hour a few times a week.

I used to only practice vinyasa flow with a few restorative classes mixed in here and there, but I recently discovered my body loves hot yoga. Before my first hot class, I was really nervous that I would not be able to handle the extreme heat and movements (sweating THAT much is not cute). I talked to the instructor before class who advised me to simply listen to my body and if I needed to take a break, to take one. I followed her advice and had a really great practice. I love that it follows the same routine every class so I know what is coming up next and to give myself a small pep talk to not give up. Now, I attend a hot class at least 2 times a week.
