Florida Room Inspiration

I was recently inspired by Douglas Elliman to create my dream Florida Room. Unfortunately in Houston a Florida room is not an option with the extreme heat from May until October, but a girl can dream right??

After visiting the Raleigh Hotel in Miami on a recent girls’ trip, I knew exactly how I would want my Florida room to look.  I want it to be inviting, chic, relaxing and a place Brandon and I could enjoy all year.

There is just something about mixing classic black and white with natural greenery and light wood that makes me want to sit around a little bit longer.

A Florida Room needs a place where you can sit and read in the morning while you  enjoy a cup of coffee or also a place to just relax after a long day at work. What is great about this set is that you can move it around or separate the set between indoors and outdoors. The neutral colors will easily tie in with my dream black and white bistro chairs.

Entertaining Space

Bar Cart

With any entertaining space, a bar cart is a must. I love this one because it would be easy to switch out from a bar cart to extra shelving to store a pretty little plant, bar glasses and a fun cocktail cookbook or two.

I love this table because it pairs nicely with the chairs and the woods compliment eachother rather than fight. Bonus, this table is under $280 which is pretty good considering most patio furniture breaks the bank.

I wanted a table that can fit enough people for a dinner party, but also wouldn’t feel too large when it’s just Brandon and I enjoying dinner or an early morning breakfast in our Florida Room.

Outdoor Rug

I love a simple black and white rug to help define the dining space and it also tie everything else together. Black and white is so easy because you can add anything to it for an upgrade, either it be touches of pale pink or soft gold.

Lumbar Pillow

These lumbar pillows would be perfect to place in the back of the black and white bistro chairs.

Finishing Touches

Garden Stool

A garden stool is perfect option for an end table for your drink or to place a pretty green plant in the corner.

I’m obsessed with this candle lantern! I love the texture it brings to the room while also being classic. I would add these to the table in three different sizes to add dimension to the space.

Flamingo Print

In true Florida fashion there should be a flamingo somewhere in the room. I love this print since it’s whimsical and classic all at the same time.

I had so much fun day dreaming and planning what my Florida Room would look like. If you could design your own Florida Room, how would you want it to look? Would you want it to be more beachy, whimsical or classic? I would love to know! If you are looking for further inspiration, check out some Florida real estate for ideas.

Jordan, thank you so much for allowing me to share some of my design ideas.

Friday Five

New York Roots to Southern Boots

On Monday Brandon and I are going to start training for a 10k in either October or November. There is no way I’m going to run a race in the dead of Houston summer. We figured if we had a goal/deadline we would actually do it. I download the Nike+ app since it has a training schedule on it. I’ll keep ya’ll posted on how it goes.

On Tuesday night I relived my high school/college days at the #My2KTour. It was such a fun girls’ night with 98 degrees being the highlight of the show. Nick Lachey hasn’t aged a day.

I have finally gotten around to updating my vanity. I started painting it with white chalk paint, but I wasn’t feeling it. A few weeks ago Brandon and I went to Vintage Market Day and I found Fusion Mineral Paint. It was a GAMECHANGER! It is the best paint I have ever worked with. I was able to paint all of that, plus the drawers in under an hour. I hope to have it complete by next week so I can share the completion photos with you.

Brooklyn Limestone takes dining al fresco to a whole new level in this backyard makeover!: via

This weekend we are tackling our patio. We are going to pick up a table similar to this from Ikea so we have a little outdoor eating area.

Today marks our ONE YEAR HOUSE-AVERSARY!!! I can’t believe we closed on our home a year ago. It has been an amazing year which no major issues. We learned what happens when the drain pan overflows from our AC unit, I learned how to fix the drainpipe in my bathroom, we have spent many hours at Lowe’s, we have had our friends over numerous amounts of times to enjoy the pool and we have made some of the best memories. Thank you Brandon for trusting my instinct and putting an offer on a house that you didn’t see in person.

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend. Hug your loved ones a little tighter and say some prayers for what is going on in the world we live in.

Life Lately

These last few weeks have flown by with craziness at work and staying busy on the weekends. Now it’s November 13, and I don’t know where the days have gone. Does anyone else hate it when that happens?? Well, here is a little recap of what has been going on.

New York Roots to Southern Boots

I started to refurbish one piece of furniture, but it still needs a few more coats of paint, fun contact paper to line the drawers and cabinets, and to put the original hardware back on.

New York Roots to Southern Boots

Last weekend we watched Texas Tech play WVU with lots of friends and have a few Dr. Pepper Shootouts.

Last Friday, we went to Feast with the Beasts at the Houston Zoo.  It was such a fun event with sooooo much food! There were about 60 restaurants at the event and they all gave out sample sized food. This picture doesn’t do any justice for how yummy everything was. It was nice to walk around the zoo without having to dodge strollers, but it was unseasonably hot, and humid that night.

We made it to the pumpkin patch the day before Halloween. I’ll give you a recap of my Fall Bucket List next week.

Yesterday Brandon and I celebrated two and a half years of being BF & GF by working out, having buffalo wings from Whole Foods, drinking this fabulous wine from our summer trip to Fredericksburg, and watching Mockingjay Part 1. We are so romantic, I know!

This afternoon I’m heading to Baton Rouge for the weekend to see my friend, Shamp and go to the LSU vs. Arkansas game. GEAUX Tigers!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Nacogdoches Furniture Haul

Happy Friday!!

Last weekend Brandon and I drove up to Nacogdoches, TX to pick up some furniture from a family friend. The furniture needs some love, but I honestly can’t wait to bring each piece back to life. Our furniture haul included, a buffet, a gorgeous vanity, a trunk and a humidor from the 1940s/1950s which is lined with copper.

First up on the list is the buffet, which will live in our front room/entryway. Our house was built in the 60’s so we believe this room used to be the living room. (More pictures will come in a later post). Last night, we went to Lowe’s to pick up some supplies to start refurbishing.

New York Roots to Southern Boots  My plan is to paint the buffet a glossy, bright white and spray paint the original hardware black. I LOVE how black and white is always a timeless look.  New York Roots to Southern Boots
New York Roots to Southern Boots The drawers should be easy to repair, I’ll probably line the drawers with a fun print, because why not!?!?  New York Roots to Southern Boots
I’m obsessed with this detail. It’s so pretty and adds so much to the buffet. I’m thinking I’ll keep it white, but wouldn’t a soft gold be pretty? What do you think?

I hope y’all have a wonderful Halloween weekend!!

Thanks for stopping by!
