Friday Five

ONE

The Bachelorette ended on Monday but I didn’t get a chance to write a post but if you were wondering who JoJo picked, I’ll tell you. She picked Jordan which was pretty obvious when she had a meltdown when her parents tried to tell her Robby would be a better choice. C’est la vie! Good luck Jordan and JoJo!

TWO

There will be a full post about this next week but I wanted to share a little teaser with you. On Tuesday night we went to Underbelly to celebrate our friend, Eric’s birthday. Phenomenal doesn’t even do justice.

THREE

Houston Restaurant week started on Monday and we already have our two dinners and one brunch planned out. Be ready for more Southern Eats posts in the next few weeks. Not to get too food heavy, but Brandon and I are meeting with a caterer on Sunday.

FOUR

Brandon and I are still training for our 10k this fall and to be honest training in the summer is brutal. On the weekends I have to wake up super early because starting at 9am was miserable last week. During the week I have to run after 8pm which throws off my night plans with dinner and hanging out with Brandon. The heat will eventually subside, but as long as I do more miles this week as I did last week I’ll still consider it a victory.

If you have any running shoe recommendations I would love to hear them, you can either tweet me (@BalsamoHeather) or comment below. I have a pair of Ascis that I like but they are old and after a while they feel like weights. Last night I ran in my Nike Free’s; I loved how light and flexible they are but when I came home I found a few blisters.

FIVE

Ya’ll I can’t contain my excitement with the Summer Olympics starting TOMORROW!! At work we are supposed to wear some USA gear and when I saw this shirt at Target I knew it had to be mine.

What are your plans this weekend? I plan on knocking out most of next week’s posts, getting a few house projects done and meeting a caterer.

Thanks for stopping by!!

What’s Up Wednesday

Today I’m linking up with some of my favorite bloggers,Mix and Match MamaPinterest Told Me To , and The Larson Lingo for What’s Up Wednesday!

What we’re eating this week. . .

We are heading to Austin today and I could not be more excited about the places we are going to eat!

Moonshine

Salty Sow
If the wait is too long at Moonshine

Juan In A Million
Because, breakfast tacos are a Texas staple

What I’m reminiscing about. . .

When Brandon and I had our first date at Moonshine in Austin the wait for a table was SO LONG that we almost left to get Taco Cabana because I was STARVING! When they finally brought us to our table (2 hours later) they gave us popcorn, which I began to shovel into my mouth (classy, I know) until Brandon took it away so I wouldn’t spoil my dinner. Hopefully our wait is not as long as last time, or the popcorn massacre might be recreated.

What I’m loving. . .

IMG_3018[1]

This sunrise that I woke up to yesterday morning. Texas, you are BEAUTIFUL! #nofilterneeded

What we’ve been up to. . .

We have been working non-stop to turn our house into a home. I have to constantly remind myself that Rome wasn’t built in a day. My goal is to have everything done by January.

What I’m dreading. . .

At my job, a few of us have signed up to play fantasy football. The weeks that I win are a lot of fun because I can use some of my smack talk skills, but the weeks I lose are pretty rough. As of right now, I’m in 6th place with a record of 5-6. Let’s hope I win this week, because I really want to clinch a playoff spot.

What I’m working on. . .

Painting furniture. I’m in love with how my buffet is looking, but it seriously sucks in the paint. I think I’m on coat number 3 or 4 but it’s finally the color I want. On Sunday, I have to finish the legs, and the details. Then it can move into the house. I can’t wait to finish that room!

What I’m excited about. . .

This is the first Christmas in our house and I can’t wait to decorate it. I love how cozy a house feels when the Christmas lights are on, a balsam fir candle is lit and a Christmas movie is on.

What I’m watching/reading. . .

I decided to rewatch Gossip Girl on netflix. Maybe I’m just old, but how were they able to get away with drinking at all of these bars?? I’m 31, and still get id’ed at most places.

What I’m listening to. . .

I love me some Josh Abbott.

What I’m wearing. . .

Wine Red Oxblood Baggy Long Sleeve Floral Flowery Dress

This top was love at first sight! For me, its a little too short to wear it as a dress, so I wear it with black skinnies and booties. I’m wearing it to dinner tonight, so I’ll take a real outfit photo so y’all can see what I’m taking about.

What I’m doing this weekend. . .

What I’m looking forward to next month. . .

Our Christmas trip to New York and Rhode Island. We will spend Saturday night celebrating my best friend‘s recent return back to New York with my best girls from my hometown. Then on Sunday, we will head into the city to experience how magical the city is during Christmas time. On Monday, we will head to my parent’s house in Rhode Island. I couldn’t have asked for a better Christmas and better people to spend it with. I’m truly blessed that after 20+ years, I still have the same girlfriends who mean so much to me.

What else is new. . .

Stella & Dot is having an AMAZING Black Friday Sale that went live yesterday. If you want to join in on the fun, or need some help crossing names off your shopping list, feel free to comment below and I’ll add you to my VIP customer list.

This year, I’m so thankful for this blogging community I’m able to part of and watch it grow. I hope y’all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

November Birchbox

Happy Tuesday, y’all!

I’m a little late to the November Birchbox game this month. In all honesty, I was a little less than impressed with this month’s selection of goodies. I LOVE it when I receive a mascara or a lip color, but this month it was hair care, skincare and an eyebrow pencil. Maybe I need to update my profile? Has anyone else run into this?

What I received this month

bbrowbar eyebrow definer #ohyoufancy
Beenlgma Face Cream
Dr. Jart+ Water Replenishment Mask
Obliphica Professional Hair Serum
PARLOR by Jeff Chastain Curl Cream

bbrowbar eyebrow definer

I used the eyebrow pencil this morning, my current one needed to be sharpened and I couldn’t remember where I put my sharpener. The one from my Birchbox is retractable, and has a REALLY slim tip which I loved. I think it went on a lot easier than my current pencil.

Beenlgma Face Cream

I haven’t tried the face cream yet, but that’s because I LOVE my Rodan + Fields products. Maybe I’ll give it a try this weekend, if not I’ll hold on to it for emergencies.

Dr. Jart+ Water Replenishment Mask

I CAN’ WAIT to try this face mask. My skin is SUPER dry all the time, so hopefully this will put some moisture back into my skin.

Obliphica Professional Hair Serum &
PARLOR by Jeff Chastain Curl Cream

I’m going to take these with me this weekend to try out while I’m in Austin. I hate traveling with full size products. Let’s hope it works, because what girl doesn’t LOVE a good hair day??

Tomorrow I’m going to have a special surprise for all of you Stella & Dot lovers out there! Make sure to come back!

Nordstrom Must Have Booties

Happy Thursday, y’all! We have almost made it to the weekend again.

I wanted to write you a quick post about my all time favorite pair of booties, EVER! During Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale, I picked up these beautiesand it was love at first try-on. I can’t even begin to tell you all of the different outfit combinations I came up with in the first five minutes.

'Trott' Bootie (Women)

So far, I’ve worn them with casual dresses, a little black shift dress to work and to a football game, regular skinny jeans, ripped up skinny jeans, and skirts. They easily transition from casual to dressed up. The best part about them is the heel. The heel is the perfect height to walk around all day without your feet wanting to scream. I wore them a few weekends ago when we went to Dallas (you can read about it here) and they treated me so well.

Today, I tossed them on with a sleeveless black jersey dress (similar), and a floral kimono (similar), for a simple, easy go-to look. I’ll probably wear them this weekend for a date night with Brandon.

What is your go to fall fashion item? I would love to know!

Thanks for stopping by!
