Well it’s Monday again and I’m happy to report I survived the first week of 21 Day Fix. When I tried it before, I didn’t give it all of my effort because I was afraid it would be too hard, I wouldn’t be able to find anything to eat, and I would have to constantly cook (which isn’t so bad unless your dishwasher decides to go on the fritz the day before you meal prep). To be honest, I used way too many excuses on why I didn’t try it in the past because after this week I’m kicking myself for not trying it sooner.
Yes, there is some planning that has to be done. Yes, it might be a little bit more expensive that your normal grocery shopping. Yes, there is cooking involved but I was able to get by with minimal cooking thanks to my good friend Trader Joe’s. I love Trader Joe’s for the sense that I can buy healthy products without breaking the bank (I’m looking at you Whole Foods). I was able to stock up on already made caesar salads, spicy california rolls, non-fat greek yogurt, freeze dried blueberries and already cooked chicken to make my meals 100 times easier. I was able to pack up my breakfast, two snacks and a lunch the night before so all I had to do was grab my lunch back and head to work. Brandon and I went to dinner on Wednesday night for Houston Restaurant Week, but since I knew I would want pasta I saved my carbs for dinner.
Here are a few things I ate this week
Bacon Cheeseburger Skillet
This was by far the best meal I cooked all week. My fiancee asked when I was going to make it again as he went for his second helping. The only modifications I made was I used spicy mustard instead of dijion and added some red pepper flakes.
Workouts for the Week
Total Body Cardio (21 Day Fix Plan)
TRX – Holy Soreness
Arms workout at home
Spin – In hopes of sweating out wine and sushi
The weekend kind of threw my 21 Day Fix plan for a loop with a sushi dinner, popcorn at the movies and not getting enough greens in. I didn’t beat myself up about it, I chose to move on and make better decisions for the upcoming week. If you have any questions, feel free to comment below or tweet me @BalsamoHeather. I would love to hear from you.
I’m heading to Louisiana tomorrow with my company to volunteer with the Red Cross to help those affected by the recent flooding. I’m really looking forward to helping those in need.
There won’t be a Beauty Haul this week, but I’m going to participate in a fun month end linkup called “What’s Up Wednesday!?!” so be sure to check back.
Thanks for stopping by!
With defined eyebrows being a huge beauty trend that doesn’t seem to be leaving us anytime soon, a girl needs to get her brows on point. I’ve been waxing my eyebrows for as long as I can remember after a few unfortunate tweezer incidents. I’ve tried a few different salons in the past but I felt like they could always look better until I made an appointment at the Benefit Brow Bar at my local Ulta.
I explained to my arch expert what I wanted which was “glam eyebrows that aren’t too thick but defined”. Surprisingly, she understood what I meant. I also asked her to show me how to fill in my brows the correct way. Not only did she blow my expectations out of the water, but she was also patient enough to walk me through each step of making my brows look as beautiful as possible.
After my eyebrow tutorial I fell in love with their new Precisely, My Brow Pencil. Not only is the packaging adorable, the pencil is ultra fine in order to give you the perfect shape and help define your brows. My brows are super curly and course (Thank you, Italian genes) so I need a product that will help keep them tame. My arch expert suggested I try Ready, Set, Brow! which is a 24-hour setting gel. The long bristles evenly coat the brow hairs from root to tip while the short bristles sculpt the brows into place without feeling overly stiff.
If you are not in love with your brows or need a tutorial on how to have glam eyebrows, I would recommend checking out the Benefit Brow Bar.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
Happy Monday y’all! A new week starts again as well as a lifestyle change for me.
I’ve tried 21 Day Fix before and I use “tried” very loosely. I did well with the workouts since they were 30 minutes and effective but I didn’t follow the meal plan at all really. I thought it was too hard so I just didn’t try and because of that I didn’t get ANYWHERE near my goal. So after weeks of flip flopping between other weight loss ideas I decided to just bite the bullet and really dive into this program. What do I honestly have to lose besides pizza, donuts and tacos?? Not much besides a couple of pounds.
Today is the first day and I’m pretty proud of myself for not only packing my lunch but also packing my two snacks and breakfast last night. All I had to do was grab my lunch bag this morning and be on my way. Here is what I brought today:
Meal 1 – Shakeology with unsweetened almond milk
Meal 2 (Snack) – Greek yogurt with dried blueberries and raw almonds (12)
Meal 3 – Spicy California Roll (crab meat, rice and seaweed)
Meal 4 (Snack) – Half of a green smoothie
Meal 5 – TBD I have a few things I can put together for dinner
Workout – Total Body Cardio Fix
I’m not going to post about my 21 Day Fix journey everyday but I will every Monday for motivation to keep me accountable for the next 21 Days.
Thanks for stopping by!
We have watched a whole lot of Olympics the last two weeks that it’s going to be weird once it’s over. At least I can catch back up on the Real Housewives franchise; I bet Brandon is excited about that #not. Have y’all been following #Loctegate!?!? If so, what are your thoughts? I think he’s a fool to think he could make up being held at gunpoint.
Last week we went to our first Houston Resturant Weeks dinner of 2016 at Weights + Measures. It was so good! I’ll share a full post soon.
This week wasn’t my best week for running due to all of the rain in Houston but at least the weather has cooled down to a nice 90 degrees instead of 155 like it was the last few weeks. I hope to get back on track next week, hopefully with a new pair of running shoes.
New fall shoes from Lulu’s! I can’t wait to share them with y’all when they come in. I think I’m going to share how to mix and match your fall wardrobe to maximize the amount of times you wear each piece. In Texas you have to get creative because we don’t technically have one but for a girl who loves Fall clothes, you have to find a way to make it work. Is that something y’all would want to see?
As many of you know, I go to Baton Rouge, LA a few times a year to see a good friend of mine. On each visit I fall more in love with the city and the state. Once I saw the pictures and hearing how bad the flooding is/was in Louisiana, it broke my heart and made me want to do something to help out. Luckily I am fortunate enough to work in an office that cares deeply for the community and they put together care packages to send to Louisiana but they still need more. This weekend I’m going to tackle mine and Brandon’s closet to donate as much as we can. If you would like to help out those in need you can send your donations to the following address.
United Way of Southeast Louisiana 2515 Canal St., New Orleans 70119
What are your plans this weekend? Tonight I’m going to a girls dinner and I couldn’t be more excited. It has been a while since I’ve seen my Houston girls.
I hope you have a fabulous weekend! Thanks for stopping by!
YAY! Beauty Haul is back! I have missed this series so much I’m ready to jump back in.
What makes this post even more exciting is that this is New York Roots to Southern Boots’ 100th blog post. 100!
A few weeks ago on my Instagram (@HMBTX) I shared my favorite pale pink nude lip combo. I love a good drugstore lipstick since I don’t wear lipstick everyday I don’t see the need in breaking the bank. Yes, I love a good MAC lipstick but I save that for more of the specialty items like a really good red.
I love the Maybelline Vivid Matte formula, it’s pigmented really well and goes on easily. After I apply the vivid matte lipstick, (Color – Nude Thrill) I layer it with a really pale pink lip gloss. Currently, I’m using an old LipFusion lip gloss but anything light will be perfect. I’m not sure how long the lipstick would last if I didn’t layer it with gloss but it would be pretty on it’s own.
In the past, I tried more of a nude/beige lipstick with the same beige lip gloss over it and it did not work for my skin tone AT ALL! It made me look dead so I added some pink to liven me up.
What is your favorite lip combo? Do you line your lips with a liner? I don’t mainly because I haven’t mastered that trick.
Thank you all so much for following New York Roots to Southern Boots over the last 100 posts!
