Southern Boots Eats – Cane Rosso

Last week for Brandon’s birthday dinner we went to one of our favorite restaurants, Cane Rosso that recently opened a new location in the Heights. Cane Rosso serves authentic wood fire Neapolitan pizzas in Texas. They are doing something right because they were named ‘The Best Pizza in Dallas’ 5 years in a row! 5 years! Brandon and I went to Cane Rosso in Dallas for our first Valentine’s Day and ever since then we have been waiting for them to open up in Houston.

Brandon ordered the Elena which isn’t on the regular menu. When Brandon placed his order the waiter said that’s his favorite pizza. His pizza had homemade mozzarella, brisket, pepperoni and jalapeno pesto. The jalapeno pesto was AMAZING! I ordered the Bianca, which is a white pizza with buffalo mozzarella. It was delicious!

If you want to try Cane Rosso and are a group larger than 6, I would recommened making a reservation on OpenTable because the wait can be super long with the recent grand opening.

After we stuffed ourselves full with pizza, we walked across the street to Fat Cat Creamery for some ice cream because that makes sense on the wedding diet. I wasn’t able to get any photos of our ice cream in fear of it melting all over the place. Fat Cat Creamery specializes in small batch ice cream made with local ingredients. I had the white chocolate ice cream and the birthday boy ordered the milk chocolate stout in a waffle cone. It was the best sweet treat on a hot night.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope I didn’t make you too hungry.

The Bachelorette – Episode 9 Recap

Last week we left off at the Rose Ceremony and everyone in America holding their breath to see if Luke was going home. Well unfortunately JoJo gave the final rose to Chase. When she had to say goodbye to look she was looking for comfort from him instead of the other way around. A lot of people have said it and I have to agree if she was going to send him home, why didn’t she do it when he pulled her aside instead of making him go back in with hope that he was getting a rose????

After the Rose Ceremony I stopped giving it my full attention (I worked on this post if you wanted to catch up on my recent travels) because I knew Chase would go home and it would be Robby and Jordan as the final two.

The first date in Thailand was with Robby, JoJo seemed very excited to see him and I was excited to see his outfit was pretty normal. They explored Thailand, got a pedicure and waited out a thunderstorm. They took Chris Harrison up on the Fantasy Suite. Is it me or does Robby come off as creepy???

The second date went to Jordan and his hair was holding up nicely in the humidty. They went on a hike (how did she look so cute with all of the humidity??) and toured a Temple. They enjoyed the Fantasy Suite as well.

The third date went to Chase. It seemed like they had a really good time on their date and Chase has FINALLY come out of his shell. She offered the Fantasy Suite card to him but after they got in to the room, Chase poured his heart out. JoJo needed a minute to take it all in and when she walked back in she sent him home. Her timing is AWFUL! If this was already on her heart, why did she offer the Fantasy Suite card to him?? Chase stood up for himself and let her know how crappy her timing is. Yay Chase!

Since JoJo sent Chase home on their date, there wasn’t an actual Rose Ceremony but Chase showed up to apologize to JoJo.

Womp, Womp it’s Robby and Jordan as the final two. I don’t know how JoJo can possibly have these two at the end with all of the trust issues she was brought up THROUGHOUT the season! You can’t start a relationship with ex-gf trust issues. It will never be a successful relationship. After watching the previews for next week she seems so unsure of who to chose.

I’m not going to do a recap of the Men Tell All because it was pretty boring with the hour they discussed Chad. The most telling thing to me is, when Chris Harrison asked JoJo if she was happy with her choice she said yes but there was no excitement behind it. She didn’t mention ANYTHING about being in love. Ben at least said, I would marry that girl tomorrow at the Women Tell All.

Maybe JoJo doesn’t pick either of those fools or maybe she does chose one but there is already trouble in paradise? Who do you think she will end up with??

Thanks for stopping by! Come back tomorrow for a new post!

ClassPass – Month One

With my upcoming wedding and getting bored of my past workout routine I knew it was time to change it up. I love being active and going to the gym but the last few months ago the gym started to feel like a chore. Once it started to feel like that, I knew it was time to find something new. Last month I finally signed up for ClassPass after hearing rave reviews from my friend, Corinne. It was the best decision I made for my health and fitness routine.

ClassPass offers two different plans, 5 classes/month for $50 or unlimited for $90. Right now I’m on the 5 classes/month plan, when I get closer to the wedding I’ll upgrade to the unlimited plan.

Most fitness studios in Houston are on ClassPass so if you want to try spin, pilates, CrossFit or barre you are able to for a low price. For example, a class at most spin studios will cost around $20-25, so if you are able to go to 2 in that month, your ClassPass paid for itself.

During my first month I attended the following classes:

Hot Core Weights
Yoga One Bellaire
Thoughts on the class:
It was a butt kicker! It incorporated strength training, yoga and cardio so it kept my body guessing the entire time. I was SUPER sweaty when I left
Would I take this class again?:

Pilates Reformer
1st Class Training
Thoughts on the class:
I took a pilates reformer class a few years ago and I really liked it. I was excited to see that I could take a reformer class using ClassPass. I left feeling very long and lean.
Would I take this class again?
Yes! Next time I plan on increasing my resistance because I’m a lot stronger than I thought.

Thoughts on the class:
It was sooooo hard, but the good kind of hard. I felt no stress and had total clarity once class was over. The instructor pushes you to limits you didn’t know you could reach. At the end of class, they hand out chilled towels infused with eucalyptus oil. #bonus
Would I take this class again?
YES! I already went back this month.

Cardio Barre! Booty Barre
The Good Space
Thoughts on the class:
Umm….this class was ok. I’ve taken barre classes before so I knew was to expect but I wasn’t overly impressed with their version.
Would I take this class again?
The Good Space does offer other classes which I want to try but I would go somewhere else for barre.

Define Revolution
Thoughts on the class:
At the time I thought the class was pretty easy but I think it was because I didn’t push myself as hard. I was having an off day, couldn’t find the beat as easily as I normally do and wasn’t in the right mindset. The next day I was pretty sore, so it was effective.
Would I take this class again?
It wouldn’t be my first choice in a spin studio but I would go back to it. Like I said, it could have been more me than them.

As you can see, I tried to take a variety of classes to switch up my workouts. I still workout at home using 21 Day Fix or Tone It Up but at least once a week I need structure. If you want to know more about ClassPass feel free to comment below or tweet me (@BalsamoHeather) I would love to hear from you!

Thanks for stopping by!

NY Roots Travel: Fredericksburg, TX

Over the weekend we headed out to Fredericksburg, TX (Wine Country) to celebrate Brandon’s 29th birthday. I love, love, love this part of Texas. The views are breathtaking, there is barley any humidity and there is a winery at every corner.

Grape Creek Vineyards is a staple winery along 290 and we always stop here anytime we are in town. Not only is the wine amazing (their cab is my fav!), it feels like you were transported to Tuscany with the views, the architecture, and the pizza. Wine and pizza might be the best combo of all times. If you have the chance, stop here!

Before our trip I knew I wanted to check out Fat Ass Ranch & Winery. One of my girlfriends went there a few weeks ago and it looked like a lot of fun. If it wasn’t 147 degrees outside, I would have loved to play a round of horseshoes while drinking a glass of frozen sangria. Instead, I had to go inside and partake in a wine tasting. #thestruggle For $10 we were able to taste 6 different wines ranging from a dry merlot to prickly pear wine that’s infused with jalapenos. Fat Ass Ranch & Winery is the perfect stop if you are with a group of your friends.

We stopped at Perdernales Cellars for the breathtaking views, plus I was able to get a picture with the birthday boy. Perdernales Cellars had one of the most unique shops for a wine lover. They had everything including baby clothes. Normally, I’m not a fan of white wine but I really loved theirs. It was crisp and refreshing which is a must on a hot Texas day.

This view gives me all the feels! Compass Rose Cellars was the last stop of the day and it was by far the most beautiful location. Brandon had the opportunity to not only learn a lot about the wine but also the future plans for Compass Rose.because the owner facilitated the wine tasting. I didn’t participate in this wine tasting (DD duties) but Brandon loved it. The views alone make this a must on our next trip to Fredericksburg.

Even though Albert’s Dance Hall is not a winery it was a really cool stop on our tour of the Hill Country. Albert’s Dance Hall has a local feel to it. On the weekends they have a food truck and live music. It’s a good place to stop and get a drink before heading to the next place.

Even though we left a lot later than we planned, I enjoyed spending a few extra hours exploring wine country and making memories with the future hubs.

If you have been to Fredericksburg, which winery is your favorite to go to?

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Friday Five

Last night Brandon and I went to Cane Rosso in the Heights for an early birthday dinner. We have waited YEARS for Cane Rosso to open in Houston after we are at the Dallas location on our first Valentine’s Day. The style of pizza they serve is Neapolitan, so the crust is crunchy and the middle is on the softer side. On Monday I’m going to share a full recap for you.

I catch up on a lot of reading during the summer, maybe it’s the hours spent by the pool or the road trips. Yesterday at Target I picked up The Girl on the Train. I can’t wait to start it after I finish “I Said Yes!” by Emily Maynard.

The other day on Instagram (@HMBTX) I shared my new favorite pinky nude lip combo.

Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid – Nude Thrill
I couldn’t find a link for my lipgloss since it’s old but anything pale would look pretty over the liquid matte.

On Tuesday I ran/walked 3 miles in what felt like 115 degrees but at least I did it. Next week I think I have to get in 15 miles, not sure how that’s going to happen but I’ll find the time.

Today we are heading out to San Antonio to see Garth Brooks. . .again! Sorry Mom!! He puts on such an amazing show and I’m so happy more of our friends will be joining us.

What are your weekend plans? After the concert we are going to be in the Hill Country drinking wine and floating down the river.

Thanks for stopping by!
