Friday Five

ONE

New York Roots to Southern Boots Yesterday I had my first Dry Bar experience and I LOVED it! For $40 you get a glass of champs, your hair washed (I tried the Blonde Ale shampoo and conditioner, it smelled amazing and brightened my blonde), a blow out, and they even curled my hair. My hair looked exactly how I wanted it to. . . .until I stepped outside and the Houston humidity took over. It still looked great at mine and Brandon’s engagement dinner.

TWO

On Monday night Brandon and I went to see Carrie Underwood. Y’all, I absolutely LOVE her! She put on a great performance, looked amazing, and she can play the harmonica. I might have teared up a little bit when she sung Heartbeat.

THREE

Last Saturday Carly and I checked out the Urban Harvest Farmer’s Market in Houston. We enjoyed coffee, kohlaches, macaroons and left with some fresh local goodies. I can’t wait to go back!

On Wednesday I shared two of my beauty staples, if you missed it you can read about it here.

FIVE

Last night a few of our friends threw us an engagement dinner at Punk’s Simple Southern Food. I’ll recap it next week, so be on the lookout.

Brandon and I are going to check out a wedding venue on Sunday! Fingers crossed that we love it in person as much as we do in pictures.

I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Thanks for stopping by!

Beauty Haul -Basic Staples

New York Roots to Southern Boots

Hey y’all!

We all have our beauty staples, the ones that we use everyday without thinking about and always look good. Well these two products I’m sharing with you are ones that I’ve been using FOREVER.

New York Roots to Southern Boots

First up, is Bobbi Brown’s blush in Pale Pink #9. When I first saw it, I thought “no way! I’m not putting hot pink blush on my face. I don’t want to look like I’m 5.” I was instantly reassured and ate my words because the blush looks fabulous. The blush is super pigmented, so a little bit goes a long way. I apply it on the apples of my cheeks to give me a nice flushed look using a fluffy brush. I tried using firmer brush a few times, but it made me look like a clown. I’ve used it for years and I don’t think I’ve even made a dent in it since the quality is so amazing.

New York Roots to Southern Boots

Next up, is my favorite drug store mascara, L’Oreal Double Extend. I’ve used expensive mascaras in the past and don’t get me wrong most of them make it look like I have lashes for days but I can’t always spend or justify $25+ on a tube of mascara. I love that it comes with a primer so lengthen your lashes. Not only does the L’Oreal Mascara make it seem like I have lashes for days, it also doesn’t give me tiger strips on my upper lid and it comes off in little tubes. So if you get in the water, you won’t have raccoon eyes. It takes a little bit longer to come off with eye make up remover, but I’ll take that over looking like an extra in KISS.

What are some of your beauty staples that you can’t live without?

Make sure to check back on Friday for the Friday Five!

ONE

Food truck lunch from Koagie Hotswhich are Korean Style Cheesesteaks on #TastyTuesday. On the first Tuesday of every month a few food trucks meet in Uptown Houston to encourage people to leave their offices and eat outside. I can’t wait until next month!

I’m looking forward to trying this mask over the weekend. After I try it I’ll feature it on an upcoming Beauty Haul.

THREE

A throwback to Opening Week at MinuteMaid Park. Too bad the Astros lost but our seats were really good and we ended up on the jumbo-tron.

FOUR

New York Roots to Southern Boots

I need to go back to Pappaduex for the Baton Rouge oysters. Who thought that I would LOVE oysters because I’m a picky eater.

FIVE

Are you watching Southern Charm? If not, you really need to start watching it because it is my favorite and I want to be Patricia when I grow up. Seriously, see if you can find it OnDemand, you will not be disappointed.

What are your plans for this weekend? On Saturday, I’m going to check out the Farmer’s Market with Carly to pick up some goodies for the week, which will probably consist of flowers, coffee and macaroons. Be still our basic hearts, be still.

I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Thanks for stopping by!

Beauty Haul – Angry Octopus Soap

New York Roots to Southern Boots

Hey y’all!

My friend, Sara recently starting selling handmade soaps and body lotions on her Etsy site,  Angry0ctopusSoapShe was sweet enough to send me a few products to try out. Before I get to that, can we take a moment to reflect on how cute her packaging is!?!? I love the simple black paper and the was stamped octopus.

She sent me 3 flavors that she knew I would love, Green Tea & Lemongrass, Cherry Almond, and Cafe Mocha (she knows my LOVE for coffee). They all smell AMAZING and feel luxurious on my skin. My skin is super sensitive so I have to be careful but since most of her soaps are made with mango butter, shea butter, and cocoa butter my skin was so happy.

I used Cafe Mocha this morning to help perk me up, and it totally did. You can smell some of the coffee notes, but I mainly smelt the chocolate. Yum!

Her soaps would make a great Mother’s Day gift, a just because gift for a friend, or a treat yourself gift. Check out her site to see all of the other amazing goodies that she has to offer!

Sara, thank you so much for sharing your amazing products with me!

Thanks for stopping by! Come back on Friday for the Friday Five!

I’m ENGAGED!

New York Roots to Southern Boots

Hi Friends!

I’m sorry that I missed the Friday Five, but I have a good excuse! On Wednesday night Brandon and I got ENGAGED! I couldn’t be any happier to share my life with him. Since Wednesday there has been a lot of celebrating but don’t worry Friday Five will be back this week.

I’ll share more details on our engagement at a later date, but I didn’t want you to think that I forgot about you!

I hope y’all had a fabulous weekend and come back on Wednesday for Beauty Haul!

Xo, Heather

P.S. I hope my readers in Houston are safe after the epic flooding this morning.
