Spanish Town Mari Gras Ball

Hey y’all! Happy Friday!

Last weekend I traveled to Baton Rouge, LA to see my friend, Shamp and to attend the Spanish Town Mardi Gras Ball. I went with Shamp last year and had a lot of fun. . .well maybe too much fun because that hang over lasted a few days. This year I kept it in check; hungover at 31 is the worst thing ever.

The Spanish Town Mardi Gras Ball kicks off Mardi Gras season in Baton Rouge. This year the theme was #PinkParty. All of the girls in our group dressed up like cupcakes. I’m going to be honest I do not like dressing up for Halloween, but I sure will wear 50 shades of pink and a fun wig for this event. I would describe the ball more but let’s just say I saw some things that I wouldn’t want to share with my mother.

The rest of the night consisted of dancing, eating boudin balls and people watching. It was such a fun weekend getaway. The best way to end a trip, is to have breakfast at a local waffle house with last night’s makeup and glitter still on.

Now it’s time for me to start packing. . . .again because I’m heading to Austin, TX to see my brother for the weekend.

I hope y’all have a wonderful weekend! Come back next week for the Bachelor Episode 5 Recap!

The Bachelor – Episode 4 Recap

It’s another week and that means there was another week of Bachelor drama. Like every Monday night, the girls came over for wine, dinner, and to watch the perfect Ben. Normally, I don’t write about what I made, but the girls raved about dinner so I thought I would share a super simple and super yummy dinner with you.

Crock pot Chicken Tacos

What you need:
3-4 Chicken Breasts
1 jar of picante sauce (I used the Target Brand Medium)
1/2 a packet of taco seasoning (You can use more if you like)

How to make:
Place chicken in crockpot (I use slow cooker liners, because less mess)
Pour picante sauce over chicken
Sprinkle taco seasoning
Stir
Cook on high for 6 hours
Once it’s done cooking, shred it

I set out taco shells, tostadas, rice, guacamole, and cheese. That way your guests can create their own combos.

Now, that the recipe is out of the way, can I steal you for a minute to read my recap?

This week, the girls headed to “the marriage capital of the world”, Las Vegas.

New York Roots to Southern Boots

Upon arrival, the first 1:1 date card was waiting for them; the lucky recipient was JoJo! Like any normal Bachelor date, a helicopter picked them up, but the poor ABC interns did not plan their table set up too well.

New York Roots to Southern Boots

Champagne bottle busted, broken champagne glasses, and a flying table. Good thing, Ben and JoJo survived unscathed, they celebrated by making out behind the table with the rest of the girls watching. Needless to say, the other girls were less than impressed.

After their tour, they sat down and JoJo opened up about her past and let Ben know that she is ready for love. Although I’m still team Lauren B I think JoJo is definitely a contender. Ben proceeded to give JoJo a rose as they capped off their date with a private fireworks show. Elsewhere in hotel suite the twins were pissed and Olivia tries to convince us and herself that she is “zen” with Ben.

While JoJo and Ben are on their date, we learn that the twins do EVERYTHING together; they live together, share a car, have the same job and can share a treadmill.

Next up, group date for Olivia, the twins, Lauren H., Rachel, Jennifer, Calia, Lauren B., Jubilee, Leah, Amber and Amanda. On their group date, they had to perform their hidden talent for a full blown audience. Some of the girls had a legit talent; the twins river danced, Jubilee played the cello, Lauren H. made up a song about Ben to the tune of Old McDonald while wearing a chicken suit, and Leah hopped around on a Pogo stick. Olivia thought that wearing a Vegas showgirl outfit and popping out of a cake was a hidden talent. She tried to be sexy, but she was #awkotaco. After the show, Olivia had a “panic attack” in the Boyz 2 Men green room. Eventually she calmed down and they went on with the date.

New York Roots to Southern Boots

The rest of the date went well and some of the girls got some uninterrupted Ben time. Like clockwork some conversations were interrupted by Olivia fishing for compliments about her lackluster performance. Lauren B. told Ben that she was scared that she possibly went on her last first date. It was super sweet, super vulnerable and Ben ate it up. Lauren B. received a rose.

On an unrelated note, I LOVE Jennifer’s outfit and I need it in my closet. Where can I find a bright yellow blazer?? I already own everything else. You can’t see it in the picture, but she is wearing nude booties.

The next 1:1 date went to Becca. A wedding dress was delivered to the suite, and it made all of us wonder what was going to happen. An old school pink convertible picked Becca up, where she met Ben at The Little White Chapel. Ben is waiting for her at the altar and then he gets down on one knee to ask her if she wants to… help him marry people today.  Just what ever girl grows up planning, marrying other people.

Poor Becca was so confused and shocked but took it in stride. They married a few different couples and then they went to a Vegas neon sign park. Becca opened up about being a virgin and why it’s important to her. I have to give her credit for sticking to her faith and values. Becca got a rose.

Jubilee might have said it best; “she hasn’t lost it in 26 years, I doubt it will happen in 6 hours.” We were all cracking up when she said that.

Ben had a 2:1 date with the twins to do an early hometown date. Since they are from Vegas producers probably figured they could save a bit on travel expenses. Helicopter rides can’t be cheap. He met their mom, who from the looks of their house decorates exclusively at Kirklands. He spends time with each of the girls, and learns more about them from their mom. Ultimately, he picked Emily over Haley. I watched the Bachelor Live after and he said it was easy to tell them apart because Emily’s thumb is in a cast. What did he do before that?

Now it’s time for the Rose Ceremony which consisted of Olivia still droning on about her performance. Ben just seemed over it, and can you blame him? Not only is Ben over Olivia’s antics, the rest of the girls are over it as well. Jennifer, Leah, Amanda, Jubilee, Emily, Caila, Lauren H. and Olivia receive a rose. Amber and Rachel went home this week.

Next week, they head to Mexico. Hopefully they leave Olivia there.

Thanks for stopping by!

Prohibition Supper Club & Bar

Happy Saturday!

I’m writing this post from Baton Rouge before I head to the Spanishtown Mardi Gras Ball. Don’t worry, that post will come next week. Last Saturday, we celebrated my friend Corinne’s birthday at Prohibition Supper Club in Downtown Houston. The theme was roaring 20’s, it was so much fun to get all blamed up for the event.  New York Roots to Southern Boots

We enjoyed some cocktails at the bar, like old fashions, black cherry sour vodkas, and champagne before the burlesque show started. It was a lot of fun to catch up with friends and soak in the atmosphere.

Our table for the dinner and the show.  For dinner, I had gumbo, short ribs with mashed potatoes and dessert was probably the best chocolate pudding I’ve ever had.  New York Roots to Southern Boots

The show was amazing, the girls were swinging from a trapeze, performing aerial yoga, or putting on a song and dance. It was such a fun way to spend a Saturday night with great friends.

If the night already wasn’t amazing, I had the opportunity to meet this guy. New York Roots to Southern Boots

I was up in the club with 50 cent!!

The Bachelor – Episode 3 Recap

Happy Hump Day y’all!

On Monday night, we had our weekly girls night in to watch the Bachelor, drink wine, and eat some yummy food. I seriously look forward to this every week. Now, let’s get to why you are really here and that’s for a Bachelor Recap.

The first 1:1 Date went to Lauren B., the card said “The sky’s the limit”. The first part of the date, is a simple flight in a bi-plane, because that is totally normal. After that, they find a hot tub in the middle of no where. They seem to have a good conversation and Lauren B is just adorable. During dinner, Lauren says, “I can’t wait to meet your parents”, then realizes what just came out of her mouth. #whoops After dinner, and a private concert Lauren B. gets a rose.

Back at the house Caila is having a meltdown about Ben going on dates with other girls. We all know she has watched the Bachelor before, and she should know how this whole thing works. I’ve watched plenty of seasons of the Bachelor/Bachelorette and it is ALWAYS the same song and cry dance about them going on other dates. You are here with 15 other girls, what did you think was going to happen???

Now it’s time for the group date, “Love is the Goal”, for Rachel, Lace, Twins, Lauren H., Leah, Amber, Shusanna (Russian), Amanda, Jami and Jennifer. I really didn’t think the date wasn’t all that interesting; they played soccer, the twins were on separate teams, and the winning team continued on the date. Rachel faked an injury. . . maybe she didn’t, but it was a factor in her team losing. After the game, the winning team went to a rooftop, Olivia stole Ben, #shocker, and Amber received a rose, which is what I was most shocked about.

New York Roots to Southern Boots

The second 1:1 date went to Jubilee, the card said “Love is in the air”. Ben arrived 20 minutes late for their date and Jubilee was less than jubilant about that. One of the girls described the situation perfectly when she said Jubilee was #awkotaco. A helicopter arrives to take them on their date, and Jubilee said “Does anyone else want to go on this date?”. EVERY girl raised their hand, and then put a target on Jubilee’s back.

New York Roots to Southern BootsNew York Roots to Southern Boots

They arrived at the spa and Jubilee opened up to say that she is OBSESSED with hotdogs. Honestly, who other than a 5 year old is obsessed with hotdogs??

New York Roots to Southern Boots

Once Jubilee really started to open up, I started to feel bad for her. This chick has had it rough, and the other girls in the house have no idea. At the end of the date, Jubilee received a rose.

Now, onto the cocktail hour and Rose Ceremony. Ben came in looking extrembly somber and told the girls that two close family friends passed away unexpectedly. A lot of the girls showed him compassion, and Olivia told him that she hates her legs and to her, it’s the scariest thing ever. Really Olivia, that is what you are going to talk to him about??? His reaction says it all.

New York Roots to Southern Boots

Like every Rose Ceremony, there is always some drama and I love that Lauren H. and Leah want nothing to do with it. Good job keeping it classy, ladies.

New York Roots to Southern Boots

Lace decides that it time for her to go home and “work on herself”. I have to applaud her for that and being super honest. Jami and the Russian don’t get a rose, and head home as well.

Next week, they go to VEGAS! Maybe the twins will be their tour guide?

Have you been watching this season? If so, who is your favorite? I would love to know!

New York Roots Christmas

New York Roots to Southern Boots

It is FINALLY Friday. I’m not sure why, but it felt like it took forever to get to here. I was so very fortunate and #blessed to be able to spend time with my friends and family leading up to Christmas. Brandon and I spent almost 3 days in NYC and then we were in Rhode Island the rest of the week with my parents. Be prepared, this is going to be a super heavy photo post. Now, grab a cup of coffee, curl up on the couch and enjoy a ton of photos of NY and Rhode Island
