Before we get to the recipe, beware this margarita is not your happy hour special watered down $2 margarita. I would consider it more of a tequila cocktail that could turn you into a fire breathing dragon with each sip depending on your tequila to orange liquor ratio. An added bonus of this cocktail it will help clear your sinuses. It’s certainly cheaper and more fun than taking a Claritin!
To get this started, I soaked 3 sliced up jalapenos (or you can use fewer jalapenos) in 750mL of 100% agave tequila for 24 hours (you can do 48 hours if you want more heat).
I prepared the margarita in a highball glass, but a shaker would be optimal when you are making for others. Due to the heat of the infused tequila, it’s best to set the bar low and slowly increase for tolerance. Too much of this tequila could cause you to take a water chaser, which is never fun. To offset the lesser amount of tequila, I chose an orange liquor with a higher alcohol content (40% vs. 15%).
3/4 oz Infused Tequila
1.5 oz Orange Liquor
3/4 oz Lime Juice
1/2 tsp Agave Nectar
Serve over ice
Feel free to adjust the measurements to add hotness (tequila), sweetness (lime or agave nectar), etc.
I plan on drinking one or two of these by the pool this weekend!
