What’s Up Wednesday!?

Today I’m linking up with Pinterest Told Me ToMix and Match Mama, and The Larson Lingo for the first What’s Up Wednesday link up.The last Wednesday of each month we can tell everybody what’s up! Here are the topics:

What I’m Eating This Week
I prefer to make meals that can be cooked in my crockpot or one dish to keep it simple. This week I’ll be making Slow Cooker Chicken Tomotillo, Carne Asada, and Pan Seared Porkchops, all from PaleOMG.

What I’m Reminiscing About
That I have been a Houston resident for almost a year. It has gone by so fast, but time does fly when you are having fun.

What I’m Loving
TreSemme Max the Volume and Perfectly Undone Sea Salt Spray have helped me create perfect beachy waves that actually stay in place all day.
1. Distribute 1 pump of Max the Volume into your hair before you blow dry
2. Blow dry your hair
3. Section hair off
4. Spray the Sea Salt Spray onto the sectioned off hair, then wait a minute for it to dry
5. Curl your hair, I use a 1″ curling wand but you can use whatever you are comfortable with
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until you have beachy waves
7. Tousle out the curls and spray with hairspray

What We’ve Been Up To
We spent last weekend in Fort Worth to celebrate our friends’ wedding and decided to make a full weekend out of exploring the city. On Saturday night we stopped by a few saloons in the Fort Worth Stockyards. Our favorites were White Elephant Saloon and Thirsty Armadillo. We loved the live music, people watching and overall atmosphere that each spot had to offer.

What I’m Dreading
The lovely humidity that Houston offers all summer long. At least there is always a pool to cool off in.

What I’m Working On
My yoga practice and updating New York Roots to Southern Boots to include more pictures and features.

What I’m Excited About
My summer time trips to Colorado, the river for 4th of July, Florida, New Orleans and New York.

What I’m Watching/Reading

I LOVED Nobody’s Cuter Than You so much that I purchased The Antelope in the Living Room immediately after finishing Nobody’s Cuter Than You.You can read my small recap of Nobody’s Cuter Than You here.

What I’m Listening To
I’m missing my Dallas radio stations, so I’ve been listening to KSCS on I Heart Radio

What I’m Wearing
These wedges have been on repeat since I bought them. They seriously go with everything and are SUPER comfortable.

What I’m Doing This Weekend
Since we were out of town last weekend, this weekend will be pretty low key. We will probably go to the pool, go out to lunch, and enjoy a mint julep while watching the Kentucky Derby.

What I’m Looking Forward to
Brandon and I are going to spend Memorial Day Weekend in Denver to see my brother, sister in law and ADORABLE nephew.

He might not be very happy about this picture in 15 years, but I can’t help it, he looks so cute as a little furry bear.

What Else is New
On Friday this beauty will be delivered. I can’t wait to wear it all summer long and especially on my bestie trip.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Friday Five

1. Chimy’s margaritas on a Friday afternoon is the perfect way to spend a Friday.

2. New Jessica Simpson wedges that I found at Marshall’s for $40.

  3. A road trip must, BUCEE’S! I could get lost in that store, they have everything.

4. Tomorrow will be spent exploring Fort Worth Stockyards.

5. Dreaming about Sunday Brunch at Bird Cafe.

We got into Fort Worth around 9pm last night and met the bride to be at the Flying Saucer in the downtown area. This morning we enjoyed a nice breakfast, followed by margaritas and a Dr. Pepper shootout. Of course, Brandon and I won. Just another victory in life for a power couple.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Nobody’s Cuter Than You

Yesterday during my lunch break I honestly had no idea what to do with myself. I brought my lunch, so I didn’t want to just sit at my desk for another hour when it was pretty outside but I also didn’t want to walk around Meyerland Plaza again since I did that the day before. I kept thinking that I needed something, not clothes or shoes but SOMETHING. I remembered that I saw a Barnes and Noble nearby my office, and then I knew that’s where I would go.

I honestly LOVE to walk around a bookstore. There are so many different paths you can take; you can chose a sappy Nicholas Spark book, a suspenseful thriller like Gone Girl, or find a memoir that speaks directly to your soul. My journey took me to a memoir that spoke to my soul. Last week as I was reading my daily blogs, Mix and Match Mama and Pinterest Told Me Tothey talked about a new book that came out named Nobody’s Cuter Than YouIn reading their reviews, I knew it was a book that I needed to read. I saw it in the store and without a second thought, I purchased it. Then I sat in my car, read a few pages and was instantly hooked.

Blog 4.15.15

I couldn’t wait to read more when I got home from work, but then I remembered I had a yoga class. So after class, I put my glasses on, and read my book as my boyfriend and Rachel watched the Houston Rockets game. I couldn’t help it, I wanted to read more. I had to force myself to put it down as the time inched closer to midnight. I will probably finish the book tonight or by Friday.

The author of Nobody’s Cuter Than You and lady behind, Big Mama blog, Melanie Shankle,  reminded me of my friendship with my best friend, Stacey, of 25 years and how incredibly blessed I am to have her in my life today, in my past, and for the next 25+ years. We first met in the 1st grade, but we hated each other, to this day I’m not really sure why. Then two years later all of that changed, and became my person. Stacey has been my biggest cheerleader, my source of comic relief, my fashion guru and so much more. I would not be who I am today if she was not in my life.

That’s me and Stacey in Mexico last year; this year we will be in Siesta Key making even more memories and laugh lines.

With that being said, go out and by this book for yourself, for your girlfriend to show her how much you care, or for a Mother’s Day gift. You will not be disappointed.

Thanks for stopping by!

Monday Must Haves – Wedding Guest Edition

My original plan for this post was going to be “Monday Must Have – Lilly Pulitzer for Target Edition”; but the WHOLE line sold out in a matter of minutes. Here is a recap of #PinkSunday, click here. Rachel and I drowned our sorrows at brunch, I’m pretty sure a Bloody Mary and a fried oyster omelet can cure most anything.

Since we are heading to our friend’s wedding this weekend, I thought a wedding guest edition seemed appropriate.

If the wedding is in the spring or summer, opt for a dress that is coral, floral, or anywhere in the blue family. I still love this dress, that I recently talked about. This cobalt colored beauty (it’s under $120) would be perfect, all you have to do is add a statement necklace and some strappy heels and you are set for the night. This floral printed dress is similar to the one I already own, I love the cut of the dress and how appropriately southern it looks.

1.//2.//3.

Don’t wear white, cream, beige, blush or a really pale pink, let the bride have her time to shine!

A few more tips I have learned along the way are:

Do: Bring flip flops to dance in.
Don't: Cry about how badly your feet hurt in 4 inch heels.
Do: Keep your make up simple, and pretty. Remember, less is more.
Don't: Try to recreate an impossible smokey eyed look you saw on Pinterest,
which claims to have a low difficulty level.
Do: Keep your accessories simple, a few bangles, a statement necklace,
or statement earrings.
Don't: Wear statement earrings and a statement necklace at the same time,
you don't want your jewelry to fight against each other.
Do: Plan your spray tan accordingly and shower the residue off.
Don't: Let your spray tan make you look like a zebra on the dance floor.
Do: HAVE FUN! Enjoy your time celebrating the couple that is near and dear to
you! Dance the night away, eat lots of cake, and have a few cocktails.
Don't: Be the wasted friend who doesn't remember the wedding.
Do: Try to save a trinket or a memento from the wedding so you can always
remember the good time you had.

Thanks for stopping by!

Friday Five

1. Next weekend we are heading to Fort Worth for our friend’s wedding, so we are trying to find fun things to do throughout the weekend. One thing we know for sure, is that we will be at Chimy’s on Friday. Chimy’s is a staple for any Texas Tech student to enjoy margaritas and nachos. I was able to have my first Chimy’s experience this summer when I went to Lubbock, TX with my boyfriend’s family for Fourth of July. We enjoyed LOTS of margaritas, good food and Dr. Pepper shootouts.

2. Staying in on Friday night to catch up on Scandal and start Season 5 of Game of Thrones. My boyfriend and I attempted to watch it on Monday night, but I was so exhausted that I fell asleep before the opening credits. (Oops!)

Chic Anchor Voyager Cuff Bracelet | Stella & Dot3. Stella & Dot’s summer line launched this week, I’m LOVING this bracelet. I think it would be the perfect summer edition for my arm party. Check out the rest of the summer line here.

4. In June, my best friend, Stacey, and I are meeting in Siesta Key/Sarasota, FL for a bestie vacation. I told her when we started planning this, all I need is beach and bestie time, so why not head to beautiful Siesta Key. A tumbler with a Lilly printed monogram screams summer time. I can’t wait for our tumblers to come in. I promise I won’t use mine until we are on the beach. (pinky promise!)

5. On Sunday, April 19th, Lilly Pulitzer for Target line launches. As you can see, I’m obsessed with most of the items. Every piece causes me to daydream about being on the beach and enjoying summer time. Rachel and I will be at Target at 8am when the doors open so we don’t miss out on the Lilly goodies, but I might also shop a little early online just to be on the safe side.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! Thanks for stopping by!
